Christianity and Islam - Call for Papers
ATS Call for Papers
2020 Annual Meetings
Providence RI/Boston MA
Theme: Christianity and Islam
The Adventist Theological Society invites proposals for its 2020 annual meetings to be held in Providence RI, Wednesday (Nov 18) through Thursday (Nov 19), and in Boston MA, Friday (Nov 20) through Sabbath (Nov 21). Along with the Evangelical Theological Society, the overall theme is “Christianity and Islam,” although excellent papers on other topics will be accepted as well.
This year’s ATS Fall Symposium theme gives us the opportunity to more clearly and deeply articulate the relationship between Christianity and other Abrahamic faiths, especially Islam. We welcome papers from a broad range of fields and perspectives including biblical, theological, philosophical, historical, sociological, missiological, and practical theological studies. Papers can specifically address factors that have shaped our understanding and conceptual development of the relationship between Christianity and Islam, such as cultural, ethnic, religious, gender, social, cognitive, scholastic, or historiographical, as well as how these have influenced personal religious experience. The Adventist Theological Society affirms a high view of Scripture. As such, all proposals should adhere to the methodology set forth in the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist’s document “Methods of Bible Study.”
Proposal Deadline: FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 2020.
Proposals must be in MS Word format and include an abstract (200-300 words) summarizing the main thesis and trajectory of argumentation. Include in the proposal the paper title, the author’s full name, institution, mailing address, and email address. In the subject line of your email place the following: Paper Proposal for ATS Annual Meeting 2020.
Send proposals to: A. Rahel Wells, PhD, ATS President-Elect, at: firstname.lastname@example.org
First time presenters must also submit a complete outline of their paper for review when they submit their proposal. If your paper is accepted, we will send you more information regarding scheduling and location when these details are settled. ATS does not have funds to assist presenters with travel expenses. Submission of a proposal does not guarantee acceptance. It is our intention to communicate regarding inclusion of your paper in the Fall Symposium by June 2020. If you have questions, please email email@example.com.
FYI, the topic for 2021 is “Wealth and Poverty” and the meetings will be held in Fort Worth TX. An invitation will be forthcoming next year.
